The title is in honor of my mother caring for a this cow before it's death. The cow lay abandoned and ill in a neighboring field, unable to stand. My mother wanted so much to help the animal, but felt hopeless to save it's life because Death was so near it. During a morning meditation my mother received a message to simply give what she could and that would be enough. So my mother walked over to the dying animal and comforted it with food, water, and kind words until it slipped away from this world. Death is a natural part of the life cycle. When a loved one passes many of us try to find a way to honor and remember them. There are many unique traditions around the world, even in ancient human history, revolving around the topic of human spirits reincarnations and death. I believe that animals are worthy of this same honor. ANIMALUJAH REINCARNATION was created to bring blessings to the spirits of these animals after they have passed. Some of the bones are real and re-constructed. Other pieces are simply materials shaped to symbolize their passing in much the same way as a tombstone or earn pays respects to the deceased. She graduated in 2011 with honors and a BFA from TSU, with a specialty in printmaking. While in her final years of college, she themed her main projects around her own nightmares and dreams. After graduating she began to network with live painters, create community art events, and explore live and studio painting on canvas and various random objects. Jody started traveling around the U.S. and other countries like Costa Rica, Ireland, England, and France during and after college to learn from other cultures and ways of life, and to share her joy of art through performance and painting. Jody spread the creative flame by organizing and producing an event for her community in San Marcos, TX originally named Martian Culture Art Experience for its first original year. This event was held monthly at a beer garden, and gathered local artists, musicians, art entertainers, and artisans to come perform, sell, create, and network. Jody was presented with the first ever SPARK Award for this event by the City of San Marcos, Texas. Later, during the 2020 pandemic lockdown, Jody dove deeper into her studio practice by taking extra commissions and starting her own genre of prehistoric artworks she coined as, “Paleofantesy” due to her long love of dinosaurs + art. In January 2021, one of Jody’s art dreams came true when she had the privilege of working on a room project with her good artist friend Wanderweird built inside the Meow Wolf in Denver, CO - Convergence Station. “Only those who seek the room shall find it!” Fast forward to the NOW in the year 2026. Many graduates celebrate graduation by flying to a vacation or to go backpacking in Europe. I didn't have that kind of money, and had just met a group of interesting travelers who called themselves The Revolujahs and busked for money as they traveled. So, when January came and they went West to New Mexico, I decided I wanted to catch them and just live a life that wasn't mine for a month. I drove to them and found them scattered until we all arrived in Taos, NM on the playa in a teepee by an trailer earth ship in the making. This is a photo I took of some of us playing music in downtown Taos on sunny winter day. L-R (Mutt, Andrew, Banjo, Henry, and Keenan). This photo is in remembrance of Keenan who passed away young. The following four photos are more I snapped as we traveled around and I'd color our faces with pastels and we would play gigs at random pubs, venues, and house parties. I played the beer can shaker as the second percussionist, Keenan played the spoons. We all sang.
